What Makes Me Happy?

I have been reading a blog called The Love Cats Inc for a while now and Helen, who writes it, does a regular post called "Things That Make Me Happy". I really enjoy reading positive posts like this and finding out what other people have been doing, looking forward to or just what simple things in life has made people's week, or month, happy. Here is my little list of what has made me happy recently.....

What Makes Me Happy?

Booking a holiday - Last week my boyfriend and I booked a holiday to Lanzarote! Somewhere neither of us have been before which is very exciting. We haven't been on holiday for a year so this is a very much needed vitamin D top up! And with less than 3 weeks to wait, this holiday is going to keep me extremely motivated. The picture below is of the private terrace in the room we have booked, where we can sunbathe in peace if we don't fancy going down to the pool - bliss!

Receiving thoughtful gifts - It was my birthday a few weeks ago (read what I got up to HERE) and I received some beautiful treats. Anyone who knows me well, usually knows about my love of beauty products so receiving all these amazing, and useful, presents was perfect.

Cooking for my partner - This may sound a bit of a daft thing to say makes me happy but as Rob is a vegetarian and I am not, it's sometimes hard to find tasty and different dishes to cook. I found a recipe for a Butternut Squash and Cashew Wellington in the cook book The Part Time Vegetarian and it was delicious. I always feel a sense of achievement and happiness cooking something delicious especially if it's something I have never cooked before.

Paying off my overdraft - This month was the first month in as long as I can remember where I finally had some left over cash. It was costing me £30+ per month in charges for the 'pleasure' of having it (damn you Halifax and extortionate, ridiculous charges). So, after some gently persuasion from my other half, I paid it all off in one go - weight lifted!
Cosy nights in - Ah, gone are the days of going out all night and getting so drunk you can't stand! I can 100% say I would happily trade nights out for cosy nights in on the sofa with my partner in crime eating delicious food, watching crap TV and generally being cosy, comfortable and happy at home.

I would love to know what has been making YOU happy recently so feel free to let me know in the comments.

  1. Great post, I'm totally with you on liking the comfy nights in too and receiving (and giving) thoughtful gifts. Definitely think booking a holiday needs to go on my list, as I hate to admit I've never actually been on a proper holiday in my 28 years! Did you book all inclusive? Lanzarote definitely sounds like a trip to look forward to :)

  2. What a lovely post :) one of the things that make me happy at the moment (like yours) is that I have recently discovered Lush. I am obsessed in buying different Lush products and having bubble baths :)

I'm the same - cosy nights in over "out out" nights anyday! xx

  7. I think I need to make a list of things that make me happy. I'm so negative about things and seem to always find the cons of my life. !Aybe it's time to switch it up and start finding the pros. To me a holiday is not a holiday when you have kiddies. It seems to be just the same as home. Just more stressful 😂

  10. Those are lovely choices. A cozy night in definitely makes me happy. Swimming at the beach, though I don't get to do it too often. Cooking food that my PICKY son and daughter like, and watching my kids eat! Writing! Thoughtful gifts as well, though I have been lacking in those lately :( GIVING thoughtful gifts, at least I've been able to do that! Hearing my girls laugh. Ummm..reading and writing! And getting comments and views on my new blog, that makes me VERY happy! :D
