Let's Be Honest - How Often Do You Clean Your Brushes.....?

I thought I would share with you what product I use to clean my makeup brushes, I haven't cleaned them for a few weeks (disgusting I know) it totally slipped my mind, but after cleaning them today it has reminded me how important it is to clean them regularly (pics to follow).....

^YUK^

The product I use is one I have raved about before now, to combat oily skin )which you can read about here) it's.....

Dr Bronners Pure Castile Soap. I love this little product, it is so versatile, it's gentle but manages to remove stubborn bits of dried gel liner (oopppss). So I place a few drops in a container with warm water and let my brushes sit in it for just a few minutes, not for too long though.

Then one by one I get a drop of the soap and work it into the brushes until the water runs clear coming from the brush, I was shocked after cleaning only 4 brushes how horrific the water looked.....

This definitely made me feel slightly yuk, think of all that bacteria (!) so I will make sure I wash them ALL every week. Then I place them all into a pot, placing them in UPSIDE DOWN so the water does not rust the metal handles or rot any wooden ones and place onto of a radiator and wait for them to dry naturally.

And there we have it, clean brushes!

What do you use to clean your brushes, and let's be honest, how often do you clean them?

  1. I deep clean my brushes every 2/3 weeks with asda little angel baby shampoo then I use crown brush cleanser to spot clean them every week - 10 days which probably still isn't often enough the amount of crap in my brushes!! I've got 3 of these soaps hanging around so I might use them too now xx

  4. I do a deep clean every Sunday night with Johnsons Baby Shampoo no matter how many times I've used them during the week. I rarely do spot cleans as quite frankly, I just don't see the point xo

  8. I have no specific cleaning routine. But I clean them whenever they get dirty. But I rinse my foundation brushes more frequently because I am always afraid that germs proliferate more in watery medium.
