5 Eyeliners Put To The Test

I own 5 eyeliners, and to be very honest with you I hardly ever wear eyeliner, I only where it for nights out. So, which out of the 5 is best.

Barry M Liquid Eyeliner in Black £4.79.

MUA Extreme Felt Eyeliner in Black £2.00.

StudioMakeup Line Styler Pen in Black £12.00.

Estee Lauder Artists Eye Pencil in Black £16.00.

MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Grey Utility £13.00.

I tested them all out on the back of hand and considering they are all plain Black eyeliners (apart from the MAC) they couldn't be more different in texture and colour!

The Barry M liquid liner is the truest Black out of the bunch but has an almost chalky finish to it when dry.

The MUA and the StudioMakeup felt liners are very similar, there are 2 differences which are: the felt tip head sizes are different, MUA being larger than the StudioMakeup but I found this makes no difference to application and the MUA is very slightly darker than the StudioMakeup.

The Estee Lauder pencil liner is a bit of a disappointment it's hard to apply as the pencil is quite hard and I found small crumbs of it fell of while pulling on my skin, the other pencil eyeliner (the MAC) is grey in colour, is super soft and extremely easy to apply compared to the Estee Lauder but has a slightly smudged effect.

I left these lines on my hands and carried on with whatever I was doing for the rest of the day and this is what they looked like afterwards (they are on my hand as listed above Barry M, MUA, StudioMakeup, Estee Lauder then MAC).....

^ After one hour ^

^ After 4 hours ^

I am shocked by the outcome! The 2 cheapest eyeliners have stayed Blackest for longest!

Barry M stayed the darkest but smudged slightly around the edges but still did miles better than the higher end brands! Estee Lauder was the first to fade, then the MAC. The StudioMakeup did well but started to thin after around 2 hours but still remained dark.

MUA has shocked me, the £2.00 felt tip eyeliner has shown the others up! It has stayed extremely Black and stayed as I had applied it, with no smudging or fading around the edges.

Well done MUA I am now definitely only ever going to buy this eyeliner (please don't discontinue it!)

What eyeliner do you use? I have never tried gel eyeliner have you?

  1. MUA does it again. I got the MUA pencil and liquid liner. They are amazing. They stay black for as long as you need it. Great value for money.

  2. Just goes to show its not always true that you "get what you pay for". My favourite liquid eyeliner is collection 2000. It is the only one that stays put and doesn't print on my eyelids.

    1. It certainly does, I think whatever product you want you should test out a range of higher end and lower end because the more expensive a product does not always gaurentee it's great!

  4. I've never had much luck with liquid eyeliners, the last one I attempted to try out was the Topshop Felt Tip Liner and it just made my eye water and ran all down my face...not good! For £2 I might just have to give the MUA one a try though...it's probably the only thing in their range I haven't tried yet!

  5. Liquid eyeliners stay longer than pencils so I think that’s the reason why Barry M lasted longest.
